Vice President of Finance
Romulo Lopez is Vice President of Finance at the Archbridge Institute. He has an M.A. in management from ITESM Monterrey and a B.A. in economics from Universidad Francisco Marroquin (UFM). He is a member of the Mont Pelerin Society and has decades of experience working for think tanks, including in Ecuador and at the Atlas Network. He is a regular contributor at “Mirada Sur,” a newsletter covering the latest news and insights from Latin America.
From an early age, Romulo has been interested in the impact of freedom on human flourishing. An American citizen but originally from Ecuador, Romulo had an opportunity as a teenager to live in Hong Kong under British rule in the mid-1980s. Seeing up close how a lack of freedom had condemned Ecuador to poverty, Romulo was inspired to study economics at Universidad Francisco Marroquin and later to find a career promoting ideas of freedom to help people achieve their fullest potential.
He is a proud husband and father of two kids. In his spare time, Romulo enjoys reading about medieval history, current affairs, tech issues, and enjoying good novels from Latin American authors such as Mario Vargas Llosa, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and other members of the literary boo generation of writers. In recent years, he has enjoyed traveling throughout Latin America and Spain; he loves to visit historical sites and study the places he visits. He is a great fan of Hispanic culture and history.
