
Jorge Luis García
Family Policy Fellow
Jorge Luis García, PhD, is a family policy fellow at the Archbridge Institute. He is an associate professor of economics at Texas A&M University, where he studies the foundations of social policies that address poverty and inequality in both the United States and developing countries. His work often integrates tools from development and public economics, with a central focus on human capital development and the well-being of children and their parents, especially mothers. His research has examined basic income, guaranteed employment, and early childhood education and has been published in leading journals, including the Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Political Economy Microeconomics, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, Journal of Human Resources, Economics of Education Review, and Journal of Human Capital. He serves as an associate editor of the Journal of Human Capital and frequently presents his research at academic seminars and policy conferences in the U.S. and abroad.
Dr. García received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago and his B.A. in economics from CIDE in Mexico. Before joining Texas A&M in 2024, he was on the faculty at Clemson University and held visiting positions at Duke University and the University of Southern California. He is currently a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Research Affiliate at the IZA Institute of Labor Economics, and a network member of the Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group.
